Spotlight on the art and design nominations in the Oscars, BAFTAs, ADG and BFDG Awards 2019

Spotlight on the art and design nominations in the Oscars, BAFTAs, ADG and BFDG Awards 2019

The “marvelous, mystical, rather sophistical” Awards season is upon us! We’re fascinated in the production design, art direction and set decoration of the movies here at Film and Furniture: The look, the feel, the atmosphere and the hidden narrative revealed by the film sets, locations and furniture. It is therefore our honour to present our rundown of the key design and art department nominations for The Oscars, the BAFTAs, the Art Directors Guild Awards and the British Film Designers Guild Awards (from which we will be reporting live) – listed below in the order of the date they each take place. We raise a glass and shine a spotlight on these super-talented creatives of the film industry…

THE BFDG Awards (Photo: Farley)

The BFDG Awards gala will take place on Saturday 9 February at the Royal Horseguards Hotel, Whitehall London, hosted by Film Critic and Broadcaster Mark Kermode. The awards are an annual event in the calendar of the British Film Designers Guild who come together to celebrate excellence in the Art Department for Film and Television. This year is the first year the awards have taken place outside the BFDG’s home at Pinewood Studios. The BFDG Awards were set up to recognise and to highlight the skills and creative importance of the work undertaken by the British Production Designers, Set Decorators, and their associated departments and crews. These talented individuals work behind the scenes bringing the Directors vision to life and in turn allowing the viewer to travel on a totally immersive journey through wildly imaginative environments and historical themes.

Film and Furniture will be reporting live from the Awards themselves and the results will published here at Film and Furniture on Sunday 10th February.
