Barcelona day bed
Designer: Mies Van der Rohe
Knoll
Director: Drew Hancock
Created for the German Pavilion at the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona, the Barcelona Couch (or Day Bed) is part of a suite of furniture Mies van der Rohe designed to welcome the event’s visiting King and Queen of Spain.
Featuring 72 individual panels of hand-welted and hand-tufted leather, attached to a polished steel frame, this supremely elegant mid-century style daybed is a modern design classic, as contemporary today as it was upon its introduction in 1930.
Sharing the same spare profile as the collection’s Barcelona Chair—one of the foremost emblems of modern design—the Barcelona day bed has been exclusively produced by Knoll, a company to which Mies formally entrusted the entire Barcelona collection, since 1953.
A signature of the Knoll brand, the Barcelona couch is a contemporary day bed design that continues to be manufactured to Mies van der Rohe’s exacting standards.
No wonder then it appears in Batman’s house. We also spied one in Companion.
