‘How Do You Know’ if a Rom Com is any good? If it has Foscarini and B&B Italia included of course!
I’d had a bit of a tough day yesterday and rather unusually, as night fell, I developed a hankering to watch a Rom Com. One of the downfalls of having a new Smart TV means access to Netflix rom coms are all too easy and I found myself pressing play on How Do You Know? (2010) with Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson – and actually, is wasn’t all that bad!
I also spotted some nice furniture pieces in Matty’s (Owen Wilson) apartment including a Twiggy Foscarini floor lamp in a rather stunning red colour, designed by Mark Sadler. Foscarini are one of my favourite contemporary lighting companies and indeed a black Twiggy sits in our own front room.
The Twiggy lamp sits next to a Gaetano Pesce UP5/UP6 Donna chair and footstool in a deep orangey red and beige striped fabric.
Designed in 1969 the UP chair series manufactured by B&B Italia, certainly has visual impact. It comes in seven models in various sizes. Up5/6 known as Donna is the collection’s most famous as seen in How Do You Know and has all the hallmarks of pop art. It apparently represents a female figure tied to a ball-shaped ottoman ‘symbolizing the shackles that keep women subjugated’. I somehow doubt the set designer chose this piece to communicate any subtle symbolism or messages here (we’re not talking Kubrick here), as Reese’s character though confused about her relationships is by no means controlled.
So where can I get one?
Twiggy Lamps are available from Foscarini stockists all around the UK and in London from shops such as Viaduct in Clerkenwell, Aram in Covent Garden or Skandium for example.
The UP series chair is available from B&B Italia dealers across the UK including their flagship store in Brompton Road, London.
