Lights, Camera, Furniture! Film and Furniture at Modernism Week 2020, Palm Springs
We are very excited to announce that F&F’s Paula Benson has been invited to talk at Modernism Week’s signature February festival in colourful Palm Springs, the desert resort city known for it’s modernist architecture and palm trees.
Modernism Week is an annual celebration of midcentury modern design, architecture, art, fashion and culture. This exciting festival takes place in February in the Palm Springs area of Southern California and has become one of the world’s most important events dedicated to midcentury design. Over 350 events take place including the Modernism Show & Sale, Signature Home Tours, films, lectures, Premier Double Decker Architectural Bus Tours, nightly parties and live music, walking and bike tours, tours of Sunnylands, fashion, classic cars, modern garden tours, a vintage travel trailer exhibition, and more.

In her talk “Lights, Camera, Furniture! The Stories Behind Iconic Film Decor” Paula will sit down with KCRW’s Design & Architecture host Frances Anderton (with whom Paula did a radio interview last year) to share their favourite film furniture and reveal their hidden narrative.

Discover the stories behind the red Djinn chairs in 2001: A Space Odyssey; the glass tumblers in Mad Men; the 1960’s Ribbon Chair in Blade Runner 2049; the modernist lakeside house in Batman v Superman; the iconic hexagonal patterned carpet found in The Overlook Hotel, as seen in The Shining; even Kubrik’s A Clockwork Orange – and find inspiration for your own interior design or home décor project.
In Benson’s world, the furniture is the star!
Modernism Week 2020 takes place 13-23 February.
Paula Benson’s talk with France Anderton will take place on 16 February.
