Leo chair by Robin Day as seen in You Only Live Twice
Designer: Robin Day
Hille
Director: Lewis Gilbert
Designed by Robin Day in 1965, the Leo range includes armchairs, sofas and ottomans, combining generous proportions with outstanding comfort and a refined modern aesthetic. The reclining angle of the chair enhances its relaxed feel while retaining its elegant profile.
The Leo made not one but two appearances in You Only Live Twice (1967). Early in the film, Sean Connery’s James Bond is seen seated in a black Leo chair with effortless style. Later, in Tiger Tanaka’s office, Tiger himself sits in a brown leather swivel version mounted on a distinctive black four-star base behind the innovative Bodil Kjaer desk, a perfect fit for Ken Adam’s sleek, forward-looking production design.
More than half a century after its introduction, the Leo remains one of Robin Day’s most sought-after designs, admired for both its comfort and its sculptural form.
