Once Upon A Time In The West

“This year marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Sergio Leone’s widescreen epic Once Upon A Time In The West. Inspired casting, sublime script, spectacular cinematography, iconic costume design and timeless soundtrack by Ennio Morricone mark this out as arguably the finest Western ever made.

Truly spectacular, this is a film that demands you immerse yourself in it from the front row of the cinema. And I still wish I knew where to find one of those dusters worn by les hombres in the opening scene”.

This epic western follows the story of a mysterious stranger with a harmonica who joins forces with a notorious desperado to protect a beautiful widow from a ruthless assassin working for the railroad.

When and where can you watch this film?

1. On the big screen

There is a screening of Once Upon a Time In The West at the DM18 festival at HOME in Manchester on 19 October. This screening at Design Manchester (the not-for-profit organisation celebrating creativity, collaboration and inclusivity in the worlds of art, design, illustration, fashion, music, animation and photography) will be introduced by Malcolm Garrett.

Design Manchester’s film partner at Science and Media Museum in Bradford will also be screening it as their opener at this year’s Widescreen Weekend on 11 October with special intro by Sergio Leone biographer  Christopher Frayling. Widescreen Weekend is a unique festival of large-screen formats and cinema technologies celebrating the past, present and future of film.
