Zanuso Lady chairs (new and vintage)

Designer: Marco Zanuso

Arflex

Marco Zanuso (1916 – 2001) was an Italian architect and designer whose innovative use of modern materials and sculptural forms helped to define modern Italian design.

Zanuso produced a range of furniture designs for Arflex, including the Lady chair which won first prize at the 1951 Milan Triennale international design exhibition and the entire cover page of Domus’ January 1953 issue was devoted to Zanuso’s Lady and Senior chairs.

Zanuso’s design of the Lady Chair married appealing organic curves with technological innovation, making use of the most up to date materials and manufacturing processes available at time.

The Lady chair has a steel frame with poplar plywood armrests, padded in CFC-free polyurethane foam and polyester wadding. The density of the foam used for seat, backrests and armrests is differentiated according to the varying degrees of support required.
