Spotlight on Joan’s candlestick in Mad Men
There’s a general rule of thumb that if it’s good enough for Mad Men‘s Joan then it’s good enough for us.
A visit to Design Junction London last week led us to discover Skultuna who make some simply stunning home and fashion accessories. The company was founded in 1607 by King Karl IX of Sweden as a brass foundry. Gold and brass also continues to be bang on trend right now. We could bag their entire collection in one go and a fascinating chat with them unearthed the fact that one of their gorgeous (and we don’t use that word lightly) products was used to adorn Joan’s apartment in cult TV series Mad Men.
Her beautiful dining table candlestick called “Lily” was designed by Ivar Ålenius Björk (1905 – 1978) and is part of series of brass candlesticks for a Swedish manufacturer called Ystad-Metall that closed down in 1969 but the great news is that Skultuna has now started the production of the Lily candlestick again.
The Lily candlestick is available to buy right now, from their website priced 94 EUR.
Excellent taste Joan!
