Wallpaper in Atonement

Stokesay Court, a grand Victorian mansion, served as the filming location for Atonement. However, when the crew arrived in the summer of 2006, the house was in dire need of refurbishment.
Though the property had been made weatherproof and some restoration work had begun, many rooms still required significant attention. The master bedroom suite, in particular, was in a poor state after being abandoned in 1911 and later used for furniture storage.
For the character Briony’s (played by a very young Saoirse Ronan) room, the production design team selected new wallpaper, specially created in New York using a pattern from the archives.
