An original vintage Djinn chair and ottoman, designed by Olivier Mourgue for Airborne in 1965, and made famous by Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 A Space Odyssey.

This matching chair and ottoman set has been professionally restored and reupholstered in a stretchy wool-blend fabric in a rich deep plum colour.

Provenance
Formerly owned by an architect, artist and collector of designer furniture, who maintained the pieces carefully and commissioned their restoration and reupholstery.

Tubular steel frames covered in polyurethane foam and finished with stretch upholstery fabric.

About the Djinn Series

One of the most recognisable furniture designs ever to appear on screen, the Djinn series was designed by Olivier Mourgue in 1965 for the French manufacturer Airborne International.

With their wave-like, low-slung silhouette, Djinn chairs and sofas were selected by Stanley Kubrick for the Space Station V lobby scenes in 2001: A Space Odyssey, helping define the film’s vision of the future.

Djinn seating is no longer in production by the original manufacturer and has become highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts.

Materials: Tubular steel frames, covered in hessian webbing then foam, with a stretch jersey. Flat bar steel skis.

Film and Furniture acts as an agent, introducing buyer and seller. We have not inspected the items in person and do not hold stock.

• Sellers provide all images and descriptions; buyers should review carefully.

• Payment is by bank transfer/Wise only (no card or PayPal).

• Once payment is received, we introduce buyer and seller and pass on contact details for collection. Funds are held until the buyer confirms safe receipt, then released to the seller.

• Items may not meet modern fire safety standards due to age.

• Buyers often collect without viewing. If you’d prefer to view first, we take full payment as a deposit. If you choose not to go ahead, we refund in full (minus any bank charges).

• If you collect without viewing and change your mind, return is at your cost. A refund will be issued once the item is returned in its original condition.

• Any disputes around condition or collection are between buyer and seller, but to date, we’ve never had an issue arise.
