Pedro Almodóvar furniture: Colour and cinema collide at Milan Design Week
Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar’s colourful universe is making its way from the silver screen to your living room.
The celebrated filmmaker has teamed up with the iconic French furniture house Roche Bobois to present Cromática – a vibrant, limited-edition collection launched at Milan Design Week 2025.
Almodóvar, known for his daring use of colour in films like Volver, Pain and Glory and most recently The Room Next Door, now brings that same bold energy to furniture and home accessories.
The showstopper? A reimagined version of the Lounge modular sofa, originally designed in 1971 by Hans Hopfer. This isn’t just a sofa – it’s a piece of cinematic history, with custom fabrics adorned with iconic images from Almodóvar’s films. Each one of the 50 limited-edition pieces is signed and numbered by the director himself.
Also launched will be the Bubble sofa, designed by Sacha Lakic, now in four new colours: Sky, moss, sun, and fiery red — key hues from Almodóvar’s most recent film The Room Next Door.
A sideboard from Roche Bobois’s Rondo collection has been updated with new door panels featuring designs inspired by film posters and Almodóvar’s own still-life photos. The director has also designed rugs and cushions featuring movie poster motifs, including a floral pattern representing Volver, distinctive eyes from Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and a stiletto symbolising High Heels.
But the Pedro Almodóvar furniture collaboration goes beyond just furniture. Almodóvar’s long-time muse, actor Rossy de Palma, has designed a collection of accessories inspired by the director’s films. Think vanity mirrors shaped like eyes, Spanish fan-inspired vases, and lighting reminiscent of peinetas, traditional Spanish hair combs.
Also featured are updated Pepa tables by Maurizio Manzoni, now with striking new colours chosen by Almodóvar, and the Pedro cocktail table, topped with one of his own photographs. A unique Rondo china unit brings movie poster designs into the home, while a series of rugs pays tribute to Almodóvar’s film credits, with one designed to look like a camera viewfinder.
Almodóvar’s creative direction brings a fresh perspective to Roche Bobois, merging the worlds of cinema and design. This collaboration is a natural extension of their shared love for bold colour and emotional storytelling. Almodóvar himself says the pieces are meant to evoke “intense joie de vivre,” turning everyday spaces into works of art that are as inspiring as his films.
If you want to live within the world of Almodóvar – surrounded by vibrant colours and film references – you’ll have to wait until September 2025, when the Pedro Almodovar furniture and accessories collection will be available in Roche Bobois stores.
