  Designed by Charles Eames for a specific person and purpose, the ES106 Soft Pad Eames Chaise was created for director Billy Wilder. Eames knew Wilder liked to nap between takes — but not for too long. During a 1955 film location scout to Newfoundland, Eames observed Wilder’s lighthouse-keeper-style naps on a narrow plank of wood. His solution was a narrow, perfectly angled chaise that allowed rest without total surrender to sleep.
