This concept book is a catalog of the eponymous Takashi Murakami exhibition held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo in 2001, and documents all aspects of Murakami’s artistic activities at the time.
The book tells the story of the birth of Murakami’s original characters, DOB-kun, Kaikai and Kiki, Ko2-chan and other figure projects, art events that would later lead to GEISAI, and other exhibits and projects, as well as an in-depth look at the staff of the organised art collective Hiropon Factory (now Kaikai Kiki).
The book also features in-depth interviews with the staff of Hiropon Factory (now known as Kaikai Kiki).
