Video Podcast Ep. 1 🎬 Conclave: Designing Power & Secrecy

Conclave is more than a gripping political thriller, it takes us behind the locked doors of one of the world’s most secretive rituals—the election of a new Pope. Set within the Vatican’s hallowed halls and the imposing Sistine Chapel, the film is a masterclass in creating atmosphere with design. And, just as importantly, knowing when to leave things alone.

In conversation with production designer Suzie Davies, we explore the thought process, creativity, and intricate design details that shaped the world of Conclave.

🎬 The Brutalist tells the story of László Tó

🎬 The Brutalist tells the story of László Tóth, a fictional postwar visionary architect and furniture designer, and follows his journey after surviving the Holocaust and moving to America to rebuild his life. His character is inspired by the experiences of several influential postwar architects and designers, particularly Marcel Breuer.

The film delves into the struggles of a visionary swimming against the tide to eventually gain recognition. In many ways, this mirrors director Brady Corbet’s own trajectory with the making of the film.

🎬 Bob Dylan's Fourth Street apartment, where he

🎬 Bob Dylan's Fourth Street apartment, where he lived from 1961-1964, was meticulously recreated for A Complete Unknown.

🪑The apartment's interior was brought to life with an extraordinary attention to detail, drawing inspiration from over 200 photos by Ted Russell. Every element, from the 1950s Decca record player to the Olivetti Lettera 22 typewriter, was sourced to match Dylan’s real-life flat. Even his favourite chair, a hard-to-find vintage piece, and his adorable wiener dog plush toy made the cut.

This immersive set also features working plumbing, oven, and electricity, and the stairway leading to the flat was painted in colours scanned from 1950s paint swatches. The bathroom is tiled with New York subway tiles, aged and worn, capturing the authentic feel of Dylan's time there.

It's a kind of House of Cards within the cardinals of the Catholic Church.
