⚖️ Power has a palette in Sky’s new legal drama WA ⚖️ Power has a palette in Sky’s new legal drama WAR.

The eight-part series, created by George Kay of Lupin and Hijack, follows two rival London law firms battling over the divorce of British tech entrepreneur Morgan Henderson, played by Dominic West, and international film star Carla Duval, played by Sienna Miller.

The interiors set up a strong visual divide between the worlds competing for control: dark timber, rich brown tones, mustard upholstery and brass detailing in the more traditional spaces, contrasted with glass walls, pale surfaces and cool blue corporate precision.

we’ve already spotted a couple of favourites.

There’s a Poul Henningsen PH table lamp for Louis Poulsen, its layered shades adding a warm pool of orange light to one of the darker office interiors.
Henningsen’s famous three-shade system was developed to produce soft, glare-free illumination, which makes it especially effective here against all that polished wood and corporate seriousness.

Even better, there’s a Howard Keith Diplomat sofa, one of our long-standing favourites at Film and Furniture. Its low, generous form and unmistakably 1960s/70s glamour look very much at home in this world of money, power and expensive legal manoeuvring. Film and Furniture also acts as an agent for the buying and selling of original Howard Keith pieces, including the Diplomat.

The strongest design moment may be the mustard sofa sitting on that extraordinary geometric circular floor, seen from directly above. It turns a legal consultation into something almost graphic and stage-like.

Some design classics are all chrome, structure and straight lines. Part 2 gets considerably squishier.

Here are three sofas that have earned their place in the design canon through very different approaches to the art of lounging.

The wonderfully slouchy Mags Soft by HAY appears in Ready Player One, where a huge cognac leather modular version sits comfortably amongst the film’s distinctly less comfortable vision of 2045.

Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec’s curvaceous Ploum sofa for Ligne Roset was designed around the idea of total postural comfort. A pair appear in The Drama when Charlie visits his friend Rachel’s workplace, bringing a very recognisable piece of contemporary design into the mix.

And then there’s Michel Ducaroy’s Togo, designed for Ligne Roset in 1973 and still looking gloriously relaxed more than half a century later. In White Lines, its low, crumpled form and burnt-orange upholstery are entirely at home in Boxer’s eclectic Ibiza apartment.

Three very different approaches to comfort. Three sofas with serious staying power.

❤️ RED: Rooms + Interiors in Film and TV, Part 2 ❤️ RED: Rooms + Interiors in Film and TV, Part 2

Sometimes red appears as a single piece of furniture. Sometimes it dominates the whole room.

Across these films, red works through walls, carpets, bathrooms, upholstery, rugs and whole architectural spaces. It can make an interior feel plush and decadent, playful, futuristic, theatrical or freak you out entirely.

In The Grand Budapest Hotel and Paddington, red is exuberant and enveloping.

Glass Onion pushes it into full-blown luxury, with that huge de Sede-esque curved red sofa, red rug and red lamp all holding their own.

Scarface uses red to sharpen its gleaming white interiors, while The Big Lebowski and The Royal Tenenbaums show how red can bring warmth, pattern and personality into very different domestic spaces.

Then there are those unforgettable bathrooms. The Shining turns red and white into something graphic and spooky, while The Substance revisits the combination with its own clinical unease.

In The Skin I Live In and Megalopolis, red upholstery becomes one of the most commanding elements in the room.

Red is rarely shy.

Which red room would you actually want to spend time in?

Today is World James Bond Day 🍸 On 5 October 1962 Today is World James Bond Day 🍸

On 5 October 1962, Dr. No premiered in London and James Bond arrived on the big screen. So we’re celebrating 007 in the Film and Furniture way: through the furniture, lighting and interiors of the Bond films.

Because alongside the Aston Martins, gadgets and dinner jackets, Bond has given us some seriously good furniture design:-

Robin Day’s Leo chair in You Only Live Twice, where Sean Connery’s Bond takes a seat in one of Britain’s great mid-century designs.

Then there’s Bodil Kjær’s magnificent office desk, which became something of a Bond regular, appearing in From Russia With Love, You Only Live Twice and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

Verner Panton’s sculptural Pantonova seating system furnished Karl Stromberg’s extraordinary Atlantis lair in The Spy Who Loved Me, while Joe Colombo’s futuristic Elda chair also found itself perfectly at home in the same film.

These pieces helped establish the sophisticated, modern and frequently fantastical visual language of Bond, particularly in the extraordinary sets created by production designer Ken Adam.

Swipe through some of our favourite pieces from the 007 universe, then head to FilmandFurniture.com to discover the stories behind them and find many of the designs for your own home.

Which piece of Bond furniture would you take home?

Great sofas have long lives, and some collect an impressive number of screen credits along the way.

For Part 1 of our Design Classics Edition, we’re looking at pieces whose shapes, materials and design history have made them recurring stars of film and TV.

Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret’s LC2 and LC3 turn up in some very different worlds: the severe modern interiors of Conclave, Maude Lebowski’s chaotic art studio in The Big Lebowski, John Gray’s office in 9½ Weeks and the hotel interiors of Judy.

Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Day Bed has an equally impressive screen career, appearing in Bruce Wayne’s modernist home in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as well as Companion and Amanda.

Then there’s a fabulous Paul Frankl-style rattan sofa in The Uninvited, perfectly at home in its layered Hollywood Hills interior.

And, naturally, we couldn’t talk design classics without Howard Keith. The striped Barbican takes a starring role aboard Elton John’s private jet in Rocketman, while the Diplomat appears in The Romantic Englishwoman.
We also act as an agent for the buying and selling of original Howard Keith sofas, so if you have one to sell, or you’re hunting for one, do get in touch.
