The larger than life\u00a0Rocketman<\/em><\/a> follows singer, songwriter, pianist and rock legend Sir Elton John\u2019s breakthrough years – from his early childhood to his early days as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music onto his musical partnership with Bernie Taupin and his conquering of the USA. Played convincingly and\u00a0<\/span>effervescently<\/span>\u00a0by Taron Egerton<\/a> (who sings all songs himself)\u00a0John\u2019s life story takes us on a journey from his childhood home of Pinner, Middlesex in the mid-late 50s to his Los Angeles luxury home in the 80s, and everything in between. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Film and Furniture\u2019s Paula Benson talked to Production Designer Marcus Rowland<\/a>\u00a0(Scott Pilgrim vs the World<\/em>, Baby Driver<\/em>, Hot Fuzz<\/em>)\u00a0and Set Decorator Jude Farr\u00a0<\/a>(The Kings Speech<\/em>, First They Killed My Father<\/em>, American Sniper<\/em>, My Week with Marilyn<\/em>)\u00a0about how they created the fascinating and varied Rocketman<\/em> filmsets – and where to find similar home decor for your own home.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Rocketman<\/em>\u00a0certainly isn’t a documentary, nor is it a traditional biopic. Production Designer Rowland refers to is as a “heightened reality\u201d and explains:\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>We weren\u2019<\/span>t slavishly following reality, the tone and exuberance of Elton is what\u2019s reflected in the overall design and look of the film.\u00a0<\/span>The story is driven by Elton\u2019s imagination and perception of what was happening at certain moments in his life<\/span>\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cH<\/span>e was happy for us to run with our interpretation of that<\/span>\u201d\u00a0adds Farr,\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>He was pretty ‘hands off\u2019\u00a0<\/span>with our design work and in our first meeting with him [at the film\u2019s production base in Bray Studios, Berkshire, UK] he said he wanted to be surprised and entertained\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
