👀 Something came to our attention recently: Check the mirror in the Torrance suite in The Shining's Overlook Hotel in image 1.... and the shape of the darker floor tiles and the yellow wall borders in Room 237's ensuite green bathroom in image 2...... CAN YOU SEE IT?!

The mirror in the Torrance family suite has a distinctive shape - 3 Art Deco-esqe arcs, almost scalloped segments, at the top. This mirror appears in the bedroom and is most noticeable during the scene where Jack Torrance sits on the bed, staring into it while talking to Wendy and reinforcing themes of duality and self-reflection. Throughout the film, Kubrick uses mirrors to suggest alternate realities and hidden truths, reinforcing the theme of characters being trapped in cycles, both mentally and physically.

This year’s festival finds a new home at Tivoli Everyman Cinema, along with several other venues across the Cotswolds town of Cheltenham, all of which will showcase a diverse range of films and events from 13th-22nd September.
We couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of it.

Miller’s Girl, the American erotic thriller, starring Jenna Ortega as Cairo and Martin Freeman as Mr Miller, is currently streaming on Netflix.

Set in a fictitious small Tennessee town, it's a bit of a mess of a film, but we’re all over the interiors.

From the big old house Lovell Hill where Cairo lives alone (with a grand black bed, plenty of plants and an old school telephone) to the Miller’s home, and even the classroom lined with Persian rugs and ambient floor lamps - the production design by Cheyenne Ford will have your eyes diverting from lamps to couches. And lots of old books.

The design story
Returning from their South Seas holiday in 1942, Remy and Lucile Chatain were inspired to capture not just the vivid beauty of the tropics but the very essence of its lush vibrancy. Partnering with their talented friend, the renowned illustrator and textile designer Albert Stockdale, they created a striking botanical pattern that radiated the exuberance they had experienced. This captivating design was showcased in their showroom, a testament to their tropical adventure.

When Don Loper, the illustrious designer responsible for the Beverly Hills Hotel makeover, visited their showroom, he instantly recognised the perfect aesthetic for his project. He adopted the Chatains’ mural-style design, extending it to grace the hotel’s corridors, thus transforming the space into a timeless icon.
